If you love pumpkins and science experiments for kids to do at home, and you have a jar, then these pumpkin science experiments you can do in a jar are for you!
Why do mason jar science projects?
Mason jars are a clever tool that makes science accessible for every family. Almost everyone has a mason jar or pickle jar lying around, and jars make wonderful containers for science experiments!
Mason jars are clear and usually made of glass or sturdy plastic, which is similar to science flasks and beakers used in a science lab.
With a jar, a child can get started with science without any additional tools required (although we do suggest safety goggles!).
We always say that all you need to do science at home is a jar!
On to the Pumpkin Science Experiments in a jar!

These science experiments in a jar celebrate the magic of pumpkins and are a fun way to explore scientific concepts like:
- Chemistry
- Density
- Physics
- Biology
- Nutrients
- Kitchen science
- And more!
What you need to do our jar pumpkin science experiments
If this is your first time trying a Jarring Science project, then you may want to make sure you have a few supplies on hand. We try to keep our science experiment ingredients to things that most families have around the house, but if you don’t have these supplies, you may want to pick one or two of them up so that your science experiments are true experiments rather than just science demonstrations (although those are fun and cool, too!)

The Craziest Pumpkin Science Experiments Perfect for Mason Jar Science
These are our favorite mason jar science projects! We do experiments like these (and even more involved experiments, too!) in the Jarring Science Club. Click the image below to get a sample lesson from the Club!
And now on to the pumpkin science experiments!
One of the most fun pumpkin experiments in a jar that we’ve ever done is this pumpkin density jar experiment. We found out how the different parts of a pumpkin have different densities.
And in this salt crystal pumpkin experiment, we learned about ionic bonds, solutions, supersaturated solutions, dissolving, and more!
In the Jarring Science Club, we also found out how to preserve a pumpkin, what happens when pumpkins interact with different materials, how to make 3D salt crystal pumpkins, and learned about the chemistry of pumpkin pie! But you’ll have to join the club to get those experiments!
We also love these pumpkin science experiments from other science websites.
This pumpkin growing experiment looks like a lot of fun!
And if you have candy pumpkins, this pumpkin dissolving experiment also looks like fun.
These fizzing pumpkins look like a lot of fun and a great way to mix in a bit of art with your science.
You can always turn your pumpkin guts into slime!
